Emphatically stating that the Supreme Court (SC) had the power to clearly explain the constitution, former interior minister and Awami Muslim League (AML) chief Sheikh Rasheed said on Sunday that the Supreme Court’s (SC) yesterday’s interpretation of Article 63-A of the constitution had dashed all hopes of the ruling coalition to get constitutional amendments passed, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
Speaking to reporters, he said, “The apex court’s order left them handcuffed; unable to execute their strategy.”
“It appears that the government is creating problems for itself,” Rasheed added.
He made it clear that all state institutions, including the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), were bound to obey the SC orders.
The AML chief cautioned the ECP would be in trouble if the apex court said it was not satisfied with the holding of the general elections. “There could be upheavals in the country’s politics by September 30,” he prophesied.
