Former Provincial Minister for Health and Population Welfare, Punjab, Dr. Jamal Nasir, underscored the transformative power of education in national development, stating that revolution in any society begins with education, especially when young girls are equipped with knowledge.
Addressing an alumni ceremony at the Government Degree College for Women, Zafarul Haq Road, as the chief guest, Dr. Nasir said that nations that prioritise education emerge as global powers. "When you educate a girl, you transform an entire society," he added, stressing that girls' education is key to lasting social change.
The event was attended by faculty members, students, and notable alumni who are contributing significantly in various professional fields. College Principal Dr. Shabana welcomed the chief guest and appreciated his efforts in promoting education. The students presented a bouquet to Dr. Nasir as a gesture of respect.
Dr. Nasir praised the efforts of the college’s faculty and staff, stating that the institution had become a model college of Rawalpindi through their dedication. “Whenever I am invited to such educational programs, I try to make time — because encouraging our youth is a step towards a better Pakistan,” he noted.
Emphasising the need for a balanced education system, Dr. Nasir called for equal focus on religious and moral training alongside academic excellence. “Both teachers and parents must go beyond textbooks and help shape our children with Islamic values, preparing them not just for exams, but for life,” he said.
He reiterated that nation-building begins with properly guided youth, and special attention must be given to educating and empowering girls. The ceremony concluded with the distribution of prizes and shields among distinguished alumni by Dr. Nasir, who also extended his heartfelt best wishes to the students.
