The Margalla Hills witnessed a dramatic shift in weather as ominous cumulonimbus clouds loomed large, bringing with them an intense hailstorm and darkened skies, according to the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA).
In an exclusive interview with 24 News, Dr. Tayyab, Head of NDMA’s Technical Wing, said the weather event was highly unusual, directly linked to the rising global temperatures.
“We are now living in the era of climate intensity. Rising temperatures aren’t just a statistic anymore—they’re manifesting in extreme weather patterns like we saw yesterday,” he warned.
The dramatic skies that engulfed the Margalla region were caused by cumulonimbus clouds, which, Dr. Tayyab explained, are deep, dense cloud formations that form close to the ground.
“These clouds hit mountainous regions like the Margallas, which act as a natural barrier—causing hail to fall suddenly and heavily,” he said.
The NDMA official issued a fresh alert, predicting a similar and potentially more intense weather pattern on April 18 and 19, particularly in the Potohar region and around the Margalla Hills.
“People should prepare for heavy hail, strong winds, thundershowers, and intense rainfall over a short duration,” Dr. Tayyab said, adding that the evening hours will be the most critical during the predicted weather system.
