Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf's (PTI) Member of the National Assembly (MNA) Iqbal Afridi objected to the attire of K-Electric's Director of Communication, Ms Sadia Dada, during a meeting of the Standing Committee on Power.
According to the 24NewsHD TV channel, during the meeting on Friday, Afridi expressed his concerns over the dress code of the lady, stating that Ms Dada was dressed inappropriately and that such attire should not be allowed in official meetings.
He urged the committee leadership to establish SOPs regarding women's attire for participation in meetings. Later, while speaking to the media, Afridi claimed that Ms Dada’s dressing was not presentable, questioning how the public would perceive them as trendsetters. However, he did not specify what was inappropriate about her attire when questioned further.
In response to Afridi’s remarks, Committee Chairman Muhammad Adrees apologised to the lady personally, stating that if there was any misconduct, he sought forgiveness and that such behaviour should not occur.
The incident sparked reactions from Senator Sherry Rehman and Attaullah Tarar, who also condemned the incident in the standing committee.
MNA Syeda Nosheen Iftikhar criticised PTI leaders for their behaviour and demanded an apology from Afridi. She further questioned who gave Afridi the authority to decide what attire was appropriate or not.
She stated that if the remarks had been made in her presence, she would have confronted him directly, expressing her anger and strong condemnation.
