Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) not only registered quite an impressive win in the by-election for PP-206, Khanewal on Thursday, but also retained its seat, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

According to unofficial results, PML-N’s Rana Muhammad Saleem received 47, 649 votes followed by Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf’s (PTI) Naureen Nishat Daha who bagged 34, 30 votes.

Falling short of expectations, Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) candidate managed to obtain only 9, 619 votes.

PML-N workers danced to the drumbeat and exploded firecrackers to express their jubilation over their party’s win with a thumping majority.

The seat had fallen vacant on account of the death of PTI Member of Punjab Assembly (MPA) Nishat Ahmad Khan Daha on October 23, 2021.

Meanwhile, PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif, while commenting on PML-N’s win in the by-poll, tweeted on Thursday night that the party had targeted inflation, incompetence and corruption in one go.

He went on to add that the PML-N candidate’s victory was the result of the party’s services for the people of PP-206 as well as of south Punjab. “I thank the party workers for working day and night to ensure that the party wins with a thumping majority,” he concluded.

PML-N Vice-President Maryam Nawaz, in her tweet, congratulated Rana Saleem in particular and the party workers in general over the win. “Thumbs up for those workers and leaders who toiled hard for the win,” she commented.
