The journalists community across Sindh province vent anger against the murder of senior journalist Aziz Memon and staged protests in various districts including Mehrabpur, Kandhkot, Ghotki, Sanghar, Naushahro Feroze, Moro, Kandiaro, Padidan, Darya Khan, Marri and others on Monday.
The journalists were also joined by workers and lower tier leadership of political parties to express solidarity with mediamen. In Ghotki, workers and leaders of different political parties staged a protest rally. The rally began from General Bus Stand and the participants marched up to Press Club where they chanted slogans against the authorities for not arresting the culprits involved in murder of the senior journalist.
The Union of Journalists also organized a rally from Press Club to Ghanta Ghar against police failure to arrest murderers of Aziz Memon. Carrying placards, journalists had worn black armbands and strongly condemned the killing of a senior journalist. They demanded stern action against the perpetrators.
The dead body of Aziz Memon was found, floating in Gaddo Branch Canal with a wire tied around his neck, showing signs of strangulation.
Deceased Memon was associated with TV channel KTN and Sindhi daily Kawish. The police officials quoting the deceased’s wife as saying that he had left for Behlani.
Sources claimed that he had asked a cameraman he worked with to drop him at a place where he was to attend a ceremony. Later, the villagers spotted his body floating in the canal.
The 56-year-old journalist often received threats of dire consequences during his 30-year-long career.
The Association of Electronic Media Editors and News Directors condemned the murder.
