Prime Minister Imran Khan held a meeting of Sindh PTI leaders through a video link to deliberate upon the nominees for the upcoming Senate vote and clear their reservations about the candidates’ selection.
The PM defended his nominations – Water Resources Minister Faisal Vawda and Saifullah Abro – saying that Vawda was the best candidate while the party had no candidate except Saifullah Abro.
He explained after the party leaders questioned if he knows Abro, according to sources. Imran Khan stressed the party leaders should support these candidates and assured all the leaders of addressing their concerns.
The meeting took place a day after PM Imran finalised the list of candidates for Senate election scheduled to be held next month.
Before finalisation of the nominees from Sindh, Imran Khan held a meeting with Governor Imran Ismail and PTI Chief Organiser Saifullah Niazi. Vawda will contest on a general seat and Abro on a technocrat seat.
He told the party workers that he knew about their problems and vowed to get these fixed at the earliest. Preparations for the Senate vote are complete, he said adding that he had learnt a lot from the past.
The meeting also took up the arrest of Leader of Opposition in Sindh Assembly Haleem Adil Sheikh and the participants raised the demand for changing the Sindh IGP.
The premier came down hard on the PPP saying: “Had it happened anywhere else in the county, the PTI could have been under fire. Sindh government did not abide by the laws.”
