The resignation of Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) Secretary, Omar Hamid Khan, has been officially accepted when only three weeks are left in elections, 24NewsHD TV channel reported on Tuesday.
According to sources, Omar Hamid Khan had submitted his resignation to Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja approximately ten days ago.
Omar Khan is a senior bureaucrat who previously served as Special Secretary of Finance, Secretary of National Food Security & Research, and Benazir Income Support Programme remained hospitalized for around one week. Mr Khan was appointed ECP Secretary in July 2021.
Last year, CEC extended his service for one year.
However, he resigned due to his poor health, but ECP did not disclose the facts due to unknown reasons.
Contrary to initial reports, ECP officials now confirmed the acceptance of Khan's resignation by the ECP chairman Raja Sikander.
In the past, Caretaker Federal Information Minister Murtaza Solangi contradicted claims of Khan's resignation, asserting that he was currently unwell and undergoing treatment.
The conflicting statements sparked curiosity and discussions among political circles regarding the circumstances leading to the resignation.
