Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf Vice Chairman Shah Mahmood Qureshi Tuesday lamented that despite being granted bail, he was once again taken into custody upon leaving the jail premises, reported the 24NewsHD TV channel.
In an informal interaction with media persons at Adiala Jail, Qureshi commented on the recent Supreme Court decision, describing it as the funeral of democracy.
The former foreign minister also raised concerns about the upcoming elections, emphasizing the perceived lack of transparency and legitimacy in the process.
In his assessment of the current situation, Qureshi expressed doubts about the acceptance of the elections both within the nation and on the international stage. He painted a grim picture, referring to the electoral process as nothing more than a procedural formality, devoid of true democratic essence.
Labelling the upcoming elections as a mere joke and drama, Qureshi drew parallels with a storyline already witnessed by the public.
Qureshi emphasized the international significance of the Cipher case, expressing his desire for global media attention. “Why is the international media being denied the opportunity to observe the proceedings? If we are at fault, the world should know,” he questioned.
Qureshi questioned the sincerity of political parties that contributed to the ousting of the PTI government.
The former foreign minister also pointed out the historical camaraderie between Bilawal Bhutto and Shahbaz Sharif, highlighting their past collaborations. Despite this, he anticipates that these political factions will eventually reunite.
The seasoned politician criticized what he termed as an unnatural alliance, suggesting that its sole purpose was to remove the PTI from power.
Casting doubt on the integrity of the upcoming government formed as a result of these elections, Qureshi predicted it would be hollow, lacking the necessary mandate and credibility.
