As the temperature in Karachi soars, hundreds of people attending the Ashura procession in the city were affected by the intense heat, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

They were provided with water and electrolytes.  At least 200 unconscious Ashura participants were immediately rushed to the Jinnah Hospital.

Dr. Shahid Rasool, Executive Director of Jinnah Hospital confirmed that the hospital's received more than 200 cases of heat-related problems.

Dr. Rasool explained that the mourners were affected by the extreme heat, which caused their health to deteriorate.

However, prompt initial medical aid was provided to all the affected individuals.

The ongoing heatwave has made outdoor activities perilous, particularly for those participating in processions and gatherings.

He urged the public to take precautionary measures to avoid heat-related illnesses.

He advised residents to stay hydrated with cool beverages and to use wet towels on their heads when venturing outside.

Health officials are on high alert, ensuring that medical facilities are equipped to handle the surge in heat-related cases.
