The proposal to promote Matriculation and Intermediate students without examinations has hit a legal snag as objection has been raised on a summary put forward in this regard.
This would further delay the issue putting the future of these students on the line as the government has yet to devise the policy admission in new classes yet.
According to details, the Ministry of Law has raised objections on a summary put forward by the Education department for the promotion of matric and intermediate students without taking the examination. Sources said Education Board Act has no legal provision to promote students in next class without taking the examination but all the boards of secondary education have prepared the summary in this regard in light of the Federal government’s directions.
According to the Law Ministry, an amendment is needed in the Boards Act if the government wants to promote the students in the next class without taking the examinations. However, the government can make this amendment through an ordinance. In Punjab, some 2.5million students would be promoted to the next classes by the nine educational boards if the proposal meets all legal requisites.
The Punjab government has already promoted the students from one to seventh classes without examinations and students would sit in next classes as soon as the educational institutes reopen in the province.
The Cambridge School System has also announced to promote the students in next classes without taking the examination and they would grade the students on the basis of classwork, assignments and previous examination results.
