Pakistan again reset the record of deaths reported during a 24-hour period as 136 people died of the coronavirus on Tuesday after which the overall toll rose to 2,975, the latest figures released by National Command and Operation Centre on Wednesday morning showed.
Of these latest deaths, 68 people died in Punjab, raising the number of deaths in the province to 1,149. It is followed by Sindh with 886 patients dying of the virus as 33 more deaths were reported during the past 24 hours.
The details for the other provinces/administrative units are: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa 731, Islamabad 90, Balochistan 89, Gilgit-Baltistan 17 and Azad Kashmir 13.
The abovementioned figures showed that Islamabad has now crossed Balochistan in terms of deaths as well, proving the fears expressed earlier that the coronavirus virus was spreading at an alarming rate in the federal capital.
Islamabad has already reported more coronavirus cases than Balochistan – a fact that is attributed by many to the higher rate of testing being done in the federal capital.
As far as the reported Covid-19 cases are concerned, Punjab still tops the list with 58,239 followed by 57,868 in Sindh, 19,107 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 9,242 in Islamabad, 8,437 in Balochistan, 1,164 in Gilgit-Baltistan and 703 in Azad Kashmir. It means the number of confirmed coronavirus cases in the country has climbed to 154,760.
On the other hand, 28,117 new tests were conducted in different parts of the country during the past 24 hours. It means the overall numbers have now reached 950,782.
There are 93,348 active cases in the country as 58,437 patients have fully recovered and 2,957 died of the infection.
