BNP-M chief Akhtar Mengal and PPP co-chairman and former president Asif Ali Zaradri Wednesday talked over phone to discuss the current political scenario of the country.

Earlier in the day, Mangal in his speech at the National Assembly announced to quit the Imran Khan-led government, saying: “We are not a colony. We should be considered as citizens.”

Mengal said the promises made two years ago were yet to be fulfilled and the government was asking for more time.

Zardari and Mengal discussed the government’s ‘criminal’ negligence in dealing the coronavirus pandemic and government’s inability to contain the locust attack in the country.

They also discussed the issue of poverty rise in the country and the government’s failure to provide the relief to the people.

Mengal also inquired after Zardari and prayed for his early recovery. He said the country needs a politician like Zardari during these hard times as the situation in the country is further deteriorating due to the negligence of the current rulers.

The former president said the Pakistan People’s Party always helped the country to come out of the economic crisis and always strengthened the country, democracy and the marginalised segment of the society.

Zardari said thee selected and the imported puppets have made the country a hub of different crisis and PPP will continue to play its leading role to get the country out of the crisis.

The former president is well-known for his politics of reconciliation and political manoeuvring and after spending months on the side-lines, it seems he is emerging again on the political scene of the country for what could be a likely overturn of fortunes for the ruling coalition led by the Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf. The PTI has left with the support of 180 members in the National Assembly now after the departure of the BNP-M from the coalitions.
