Former prime minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi on Tuesday demanded the immediate resignation of National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Chairman Justice (retd) Javed Iqbal.
Abbasi said he had repeatedly stated that the NAB should be shut if the country was to be run, adding that they wanted to bring an amendment to close NAB.
Talking to media persons at the Supreme Court after Khawaja Saad Rafique and his brother Salman got bails, he said the NAB was being used to target and change the loyalties of politicians.
It’s the time to end this trend, Abbasi said, adding that the allegations should be levelled only according to law.
The senior PML-N leader said every action of Prime Minister Imran Khan was based upon ill-intentions, as he asked him (Imran) to listen to what the court had remarked.
On the occasion, PML-N leader Khawaja Asif said they did not want a law to exist, which could be used for targeting in future. The bails being awarded to the PML-N leaders one after another were a proof of political victimisation, he added.
Khawaja Asif said there was no justification for NAB’s existence after the remarks passed by the apex court.
He said the country would move closer to destruction if the more time the current government stayed in office.
He said the government did not bring back the Pakistani students from China but opened the floodgates for people from Taftan.
Ahsan Iqbal said Zulfi Bokhari – a close aide of Imran – allowed the spread of coronavirus [from Iran].
The PML-N leader said the NAB was being used to silence Imran’s opponents, which was working for imposing fascism by working according his wishes.
He noted that the NAB could not give a single reason to reject the bail pleas.
