A newly-wed 24 years old man died on Thursday after the string of a stray kite slit his throat open in Iqbal Town area of Lahore, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
The deceased was identified as Daniyal, and he was a resident of Samanabad. His wedding ceremony was held two days ago.
He was rushed to Farooq Hospital in injured condition where he breathed his last. His body was shifted to a mortuary after medico-legal formalities by police.
Lahore Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Fayyaz Ahmed Dev took notice of the incident and sought a report from the DIG (operations).
He also expressed his grief over the loss of a precious human life, directing the police officers to strictly implement the ban on kite flying.
The city police chief also ordered a stern action against the manufacturers and sellers of kites, stating that no one could be allowed to play with human lives.
He also appealed to the parents to keep their children from flying kites, asking the people not to let their roofs used for the illegal play.
It is learnt that the police barred relatives of the deceased, who were at the Iqbal Town police station, from talking to media. The media persons were forcibly evicted from the police station.
It is to be noted here that the police appear unable to effectively curb kite flying in the city. The illegal activity goes on unabated in different areas of the metropolis despite police’s tall claims of registering 900 cases in two and a half months over violation of kite flying ban.
