For 48 vacant seats in Senate, 125 candidates have submitted their nomination papers, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Sunday. The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) will release the initial list of the candidates soon.
According to reports, at Centre, former prime ministers Yousaf Raza Gillani, Anwar-ul-Haq Kakar, Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and Interior Minister Syed Mohsin Naqvi submitted their nomination papers.
The scrutiny of the candidates will be held on March 19 while appeals against acceptances or rejection of nomination papers can be registered by March 21.
Revised lists of candidates will be published on March 26. However, candidates can withdraw their nominations till March 27.
For the Senate elections in Punjab, a total of 28 candidates were vying for 12 available seats. However, 17 candidates have submitted papers for 7 general seats.
Federal Minister Syed Mohsin Naqvi, Muhammad Aurangzeb, Ijaz Minhas, Waleed Iqbal, Waseem Shahzad, Ahad Cheema, Parvez Rasheed, Hamid Khan and Talal CH have submitted papers for general seats.
For the two women's seats in Punjab, a total of five candidates submitted their papers, including Sanam Javed, Faiza Ahmed and Anush Rehman.
Furthermore, three candidates submitted papers for the two technocrat seats in Punjab, namely Yasmin Rashid and Mustafa Ramday.
WhileTariq Javed and Asif Ashiq submitted nomination papers for the minority seat in Punjab.
