In a joint operation in Multan on Monday, teams of police and the Auqaf department bulldozed the marriage hall and the adjacent home belonging to senior politician Javed Hashmi, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

Reacting to the development, the veteran politician took to social media to inform that a heavy contingent of police had surrounded his and his other relatives’ homes in the Makhdoom Rashid area of Multan and were demolishing their walls. “I am at my home. If the police want to arrest me, it can arrest me,” he said and accused the government of victimizing him because he was its political opponent.

Auqaf Department Zonal Administrator Rana Tariq Ali told the media that the marriage hall had been illegally built on the department’s land.

He further said that the department’s team was present at the site along with the police.

Later talking to 24News, senior politician Javed Hashmi said the authorities did not serve him a notice prior to sending their teams to bulldoze his home and the adjacent marriage hall.

He said he had inherited the ‘disputed’ lands from his ancestors.
