Sindh leads the race when it comes to establishing new varsities, but several of these institutions are currently running on ad-hoc basis due to the corruption allegations against their officials and the ongoing inquiries, reported Rafique Bhutto who is Editor Sindh at 24NewsHD TV channel on Saturday.
Amid voices being raised over corruption in many of the higher education institutions, some universities currently do not have vice-chancellor. And the result is that the affairs are being managed on a temporary basis.
In the case of Peoples University of Medical and Health Sciences for Women, Nawabshah, the search committee couldn’t even find a suitable candidate for the post.
Meanwhile, Dr Fateh Muhammad Burfat – the vice-chancellor of Sindh University, Jamshoro which is the largest in the province – is on forced leave. The reason? Corruption charges. Moreover, the forced leave period for him has been extended by another month.
On the other hand, Dr Fateh Muhammad Marri refused to take the charge of Benazir Bhutto Shaheed University Lyari (BBSUL) vice-chancellor.
Furthermore, interviews have been called again to fill the vacant slot of vice-chancellor
As the Anti-Corruption Establishment is conducting inquiries in multiple universities across Sindh, 24NewsHD obtained all the related notifications.
Over 50 varsities have so far been established in the province, which covers different sectors including medical, engineering, science, arts and finance.
