LHC summons IG Punjab, LCWU Registrar in harassment case

Lahore High Court has summoned Inspector General of Police (IGP) Punjab and Registrar Lahore College for Women University tomorrow in connection with a petition regarding harassment of girl students in educational institutions, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.


LHC Chief Justice Aliya Neelam heard the petition of citizen Azam Ali Butt on Thursday.


The court also called for the Punjab University suicide incident report and the original diary.


Chief Justice Aliya Neelam remarked that court wants to see the original diary to know what action was taken by the police in this regard.


The CJ inquired that what action has been taken regarding the misinformation being spread about this incident.


The Chief Justice further inquired that is IG Punjab unaware of what is happening in his province?  IG Punjab should come and tell what action they have taken on this incident, the court ordered.


The court ordered Registrar of Lahore College Women University to appear before court with all harassment applications.


The court asked the petitioner’s lawyer what kind of harassment happened and where are applications in this regard.


The court remarked that it is not enough to simply say that there has been harassment, there will be evidence.


The lawyer replied that the vice chancellor of Lahore College for Women University had stated that cases of harassment are happening with the students.


The media has also reported that the Speaker has said this on the floor of the Assembly, the lawyer replied.


However, court adjourned the hearing of the case till October 18 (tomorrow).
