Everyone’s favourite host HSY returned with another hard-hitting session of LIVE with HSY, featuring actress and activist, Sarwat Gilani who has recently caught everyone’s attention for her excellent performance in the web-series, ‘Churails’.
Regarding recent unfortunate crimes in the country which have gauged a lot of attention from the media, such as the transgender shooting, the 5-year-old child’s murder case incident; and the motorway incident, the two superstars discussed the culture of victim-blaming/shaming, the portrayal of women in Pakistani media, and the need for active changes in the judicial system.
HSY began the LIVE session by voicing his concerns towards the motorway incident and the uproar it has caused nationwide.
Both celebrities agreed that victim-blaming is just not acceptable. For many years, whenever crimes against women have been committed in our society, ‘the woman’ is automatically put at fault.
Sarwat Gilani then posed the question with regard to women who are sexually abused in their own homes, “Is it still their fault? Was it still what they were wearing that was the problem?” Going on to state that if women are not safe in their homes, they are not safe anywhere and this must be put to an end.
The superstars also felt that the apathy of authority figures was only present because they weren’t directly related to the victims themselves and that in itself shows professional neglect as well as a lack of security for citizens across the country.
HSY proceeded to ask Gilani her opinion about media censorship in the country, to which she responded that it’s absolutely ridiculous.
She expressed to HSY that the image created of a Pakistani woman is constantly up for ridicule in our society and our culture, so what else can be expected from the masses? She went on to state that we should tell better stories about women through Pakistani media to cast them in a better light.
The stars continued with the discussion agreeing that judicial reforms and active changes needed to be made for women. “I think that everyone should take a stand for the kind of image we want to project of a Pakistani woman,” said the actress to HSY.
LIVE with HSY has gained a lot of attention for being the series where celebrities have a safe space to voice their truth and this session was no different.
HSY himself seems to have a particular aptitude for getting superstars to speak their minds openly.
The chat show has made a name for itself as one of the best platforms for celebrity discussions. We wonder who’s going to be in the hot seat with HSY this weekend at 7pm!
