DIG Sukkur Abdul Hameed Khosa has changed the investigation officer (IO) in the case of murder of Fatima, who used to work as a maid at a haveli in Ranipur area of Khairpur, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Sunday.
DSP Safiullah Solangi has replaced Bachal Qazi, who was previously IO in the case.
Police have so far failed to arrest Pir Fayyaz Shah and Hina Shah.
Police have also failed to unlock the pin code of the cellphone of Asad Shah, another suspect in the case, despite the passage of one month.
It is said that there may be more videos of the little girl in Asad’s cellphone.
Four days ago, on September 13, 2023, Khairpur Police conducted a raid at a home in Khayaban-e-Shamsher in Karachi’s Defence Housing Authority (DHA) in search of Fayyaz Shah and Hina Shah, wanted in connection with the murder of a maid, Fatima.
However, police said no arrest could be made. “Mobile phones of the suspects have been switched off to avoid arrest,” police said, adding, “We are going ahead with our investigation.”
Despite passage of around four weeks, co-accused Hina Shah, who is the wife of main accused Asad Shah, has not been arrested.
10-year-old Fatima had died in gruesome conditions at the Haveli of Asad Shah in Ranipur area of Khairpur and a video of her death went viral on social media.
The postmortem report had confirmed that the minor was sexually abused, according to DIG Sukkur Javed Jiskani.
After the incident, the police had arrested main accused Asad Shah. A court had later also granted physical remand of the suspect.
