Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has filed an appeal against the objections raised by the Supreme Court of Pakistan’s registrar office regarding its petition for nationwide elections within 90 days, the 24NewsHD TV channel.
On Thursday, the registrar's office of the Supreme Court raised objections to the constitutional petition of the PTI seeking general elections within 90 days of the dissolution of assemblies and returned it.
Outlining objections to the PTI’s petition, the SC registrar highlighted the petitioners’ failure to specify what questions of public importance pertained to fundamental rights.
The petition also lacked the ingredients for invoking jurisdiction under Article 184(3) of the Constitution. Moreover, the petitioners had not approached any other appropriate forum before filing the matter in SC and had not provided any justification for moving to the apex court.
The PTI had also named President Arif Alvi as respondent but the registrar was of the view that the head of the state could not be made part of the petition under Article 248.
Challenging the SC’s registrar's office, PTI pleaded to the court that the objections of the registrar's office should be set aside and the application should be accepted for hearing.
The petition further added that the registrar's office's objections are judicial nature that is beyond the jurisdiction of the registrar’s office.
