A five-member larger bench of the Supreme Court (SC), led by Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Justice Umar Ata Bandial, will today hear the presidential reference filed to seek interpretation of Article 63-A of the constitution, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Monday.
The bench will resume the hearing at 1:00 PM.
Other judges on the bench are Justice Ijazul Ahsan, Justice Mazhar Alam, Justice Muneeb Akhtar and Justice Jamal Khan Mandokhel.
The deputy attorney general had prayed to the court to adjourn hearing of the case until the appointment of a new attorney general of Pakistan (AGP).
The SC, today, will also hear the petition filed by former prime minister and PTI Chairman Imran Khan, seeking lifelong ban on a party’s ‘turncoats’ from holding any public office.
The last Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) government had filed the reference when more than dozen of its members of the National Assembly (MNAs) had defected to the then joint opposition ahead of voting on the no-trust motion submitted against it.
