In response to the letter from the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Lahore, the Spanish authorities have exposed the Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi family's allegedly “benami” commercial and residential properties and a taxi service worth billions of rupees in Spain and an island.
According to the 24News HD TV channel, a letter from the Spanish authorities revealed that Chaudhry Moonis Elahi, son of Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi has a "Permit of Residence" (PR) in Spain on the basis of which all investments are made.
The Spanish authorities' letter also unearthed the fact that Moonis Elahi has recently started a taxi service in Barcelona by taking 250 taxi vehicles on bank lease.
Interestingly, it has also been disclosed in the letter that 480 million shares of Rahim Yar Khan Sugar Mills were released in the name of Nawaz Bhatti, a Naib Qasid (peon) of the Punjab Health Department and Mazhar Abbas, an unemployed student, the sources said.
While the Spanish letter also disclosed that there are two frontmen of the Elahi family, Saqib Tahir and Chaudhry Imtiaz in Spain who look after their Spanish properties.
As per the details of the properties of the Elahi family in Spain, the sources said Moonis Elahi recently bought properties worth 400 million including three parking plazas and a storage hall while the Barceló Hotel in Barcelona and a multi-story plaza is also owned by the Elahi family and Saqib Tahir is caretaker of it.
The Elahi family also turned out to be the owners of various properties in the Canary Islands and some old construction buildings, plazas and orchards.
While Moonis Elahi is using the properties 23 CD Josep Pla 08019 and an apartment opposite the commercial centre ‘Diagonal Mar’ in Barcelona since December 2022.
About the 480 million shares of Rahim Yar Khan Sugar Mills released in the name of Nawaz Bhatti and Mazhar Abbas have been transferred in the name of Moonis Elahi, the sources said adding that shares worth 260 million were transferred in the name of two dummy companies ‘Me Capital’ and ‘31 Estate’ and both the companies are also said to be owned by Elahi family.
Following the information given by the Spanish authorities, NAB Lahore has widened the scope of the investigation, the sources concluded.
