Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has accused former chief justice of Pakistan Saqib Nisar of “promoting politics in the name of justice” by derailing several projects initiated by the previous PML-N government, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
Shehbaz Sharif formally inaugurated various services for the patients at Urology Department of Rawalpindi Institute of Urology and Transplantation (RIUT) Hospital on Tuesday.
Speaking on the occasion, Shehbaz Sharif lauded the efforts of secretary health, vice chancellor and management of the hospital for timely completing the project and ensuring state of the art health facilities for the patients.
The prime minister said the ground-breaking ceremony of this hospital was laid by him and sufficient funds were provided during his last tenure as Punjab chief minister that helped complete various units of this hospital.
Highlighting the role of this hospital during Covid-19 pandemic, Shehbaz Sharif said efforts will be made to provide modern facilities in this hospital.
Expressing regret over the steps taken by former chief justice Saqib Nisar and PTI chairman to undermine the health department, the Prime Minister categorically said that no one would be allowed to do politics over health and education.
The prime minister said earlier, an allegation put against him by a former chief justice of the Supreme Court halted the work on a kidney and liver transplant hospital in Lahore. He said such discouragement of development and social work badly impacted the provision of civic facilities for the general public.
He said serving the masses was a noble cause that needed a synchronized effort by all stakeholders.
Shehbaz Sharif stressed that the development projects, particularly those relating to health and education, must not be politicized and be implemented in the best interest of the general public. He said no one should be allowed to politicize the projects of any government.
Shehbaz Sharif said it was time to get united for the proper implementation of the Constitution of the country.
Shehbaz also urged all the segments of the society including political parties to stay united to serve humanity.
He expressed satisfaction with the successful completion of the first phase of the hospital where patients were being provided best medical treatment in areas of dialysis, kidney ailments, and surgeries. He lauded the Punjab administration of health for effectively carrying out the operationalization of the hospital and appreciated doctors and nurses for their dedication.
He mentioned that Rs5 billion were spent on RIUT so far and recalled that he laid the foundation stone of the hospital in 2012. He regretted that the previous government delayed the project, which otherwise could have been made operational much earlier.
Earlier, the prime minister was briefed that the facility contains a capacity of 255 beds. It was informed that the deadline of the project was set as June 2024 while the management plans to complete it within this year.
On the occasion, PML-N leader Hanif Abbasi said that as per the instructions and vision of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, free emergency services are being provided in all government sector hospitals of Rawalpindi. He also appreciated Shehbaz Sharif's efforts for making the hospital functional in just few days.
