The Inspectors General of Police (IG) Punjab has made the process of issuing driving licences paperless for the convenience of citizens, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Tuesday.
Dr Usman Anwar has announced to eliminate the file system for issuing and obtaining traffic license.
According to IG Punjab Dr Usman Anwar, citizens can now get a driving license at any traffic office or service center in the province by bringing their National Identity Card and paying the proposed fee.
Citizens will be able to take the driving test in their own vehicle, he said, adding there will be no need to carry a copy of any document including ID card, passport, photographs.
However, a passport is required to obtain an international driving license.
He also said that citizens can easily get their driving license without any recommendation, bribe and hassle.
He detailed that in Punjab, there are more than 25 million motorcycles and vehicles, but only 4.5 million people have licenses, while in Lahore, there are more than 75 million motorcycles and vehicles, but only 7 or 8 million citizens have obtained licenses. This is because people deemed getting a driving license a difficult task. However, this difficulty has now been made easier.
Facilitation of issuance of driving license has been provided in police service centers across the province. Moreover, this facility will be available in the big cities 24/7 and seven days a week, while in small cities, this facility will be offered in double shifts, said Dr Usman Anwar.
