Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Punjab Chief Organiser Alia Hamza was arrested by law enforcement authorities in Rawalpindi on Thursday, sources confirmed.

According to police sources, Alia Hamza was taken into custody from Chaklala Scheme 3, Noorani Mohalla, and subsequently transferred to the Women Police Station, Rawalpindi. PTI leader Shamim Aftab was also reportedly detained alongside her.

Alia Hamza had arrived in Rawalpindi to attend a PTI Workers Convention when police moved in and arrested her.

A video of her calm interaction with officers before her arrest has surfaced, in which she insisted that the gathering was peaceful.

“We PTI people have gathered here peacefully,” Hamza told police officials moments before being detained. “I have to speak for 10 minutes — no illegal or unconstitutional work is happening here. We are not doing anything wrong, we are peaceful.”

The arrest has sparked criticism from PTI members, who termed the police action as “unjustified” and “an attack on democratic rights.” Further details are expected as the situation develops.
