Politicians, showbiz personalities condemn assault on TikToker at Minar-e-Pakistan

Politicians and showbiz personalities have condemned the mass assault on TikToker Ayesha at Greater Iqbal Park in Lahore on August 14, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Wednesday.

PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari condemned the assault of a young TikToker by a mob at Minar-e-Pakistan and said the incident speaks volumes about the moral degradation in our society.

Bilawal says, “The incident should shame every Pakistani.”

He demanded those responsible must be brought to justice so the women of Pakistan do not feel insecure and it is all our responsibility to ensure safety and equal rights to all.

PMLN President Shehbaz Sharif tweeted, “Deeply disturbed at the harassment of a young woman & her companions by hundreds of people at Greater Iqbal Park in Lahore. What is more worrying is the direction our society is headed in. The recent anti-women incidents are a reminder that malaise is deep-rooted. Very Shameful,”

Allegedly, around 300 to 400 youth assaulted a TikToker Ayesha and her friends at Minar-e-Pakistan. Lahore Police officials vowed to trace down the assaulters via video footage evidence.

Author Fatima Bhutto said, “While assaulting a woman at Minar-e-Pakistan, the hundreds of men involved filmed themselves. Thanks to the abundance of video evidence, can we expect over 400 arrests to be made in Lahore without delay.”

Lollywood star Mahira Khan in her reaction said, “I can’t believe what I just saw!!! I’ve said it before and I will say it again - make an example out of these men.”

Federal Human Rights Minister Shireen Mazari said, “MoHR is in touch with Punjab authorities to ensure strict action against perpetrators of the condemnable attack on a woman at Greater Iqbal Park in Lahore. Arrests made, FIRs done. MoHR is following up. But we need to try & change such violent behavioral patterns in our people.”

“We have awareness progs, laws etc. Certainly, effective implementation of our laws will have some deterrent effect but mindsets also have to change to stop crimes against all vulnerable members of our society. That is the challenge we are now focusing on along with law implementation,” she added.

Jibran Nasir condemned the incident and called on the authorities to take action against the people involved in the assault.

Former finance minister Ishaq Dar reacting to the public assault on girl said, “The culture that Imran Niazi laid the foundation through his sit-ins/gathering and statements about women, has now shaped in the form of the tragic incident at Minar-e-Pakistan on August 14. The incident brought shame to the nation.”

Ishaq Dar demanded to punish the perpetrators immediately.

Moreover, PPP Mola Baksh Chadnio in a statement issued condemned the incident and said that the government kept ‘sleeping’ while a mob continued harassing a girl for two and an half hour.
