Yesterday, a high alert was sounded in the Punjab city of Jaranwala following protests by locals against the alleged desecration of the Holy Quran by some members of the Christian community.
Hundreds of people took part in the protests and blocked the Cinema Chowk Road. There were also reports of alleged storming of a church in a local Christian colony of Jaranwala.
The local markets were shut down along with the Motorway while the angry residents continued the protests against a Christian man and his two sons for allegedly desecrating the Holy Quran.
A heavy contingent of police led by SP Bilal Sulehri has been deployed in the city to quell the violence protests.
Jaranwala Deputy Commissioner Shaukat Masih was replaced following the protests.
The late arrival of the local SHO Mansoor Sadiq earlier contributed to the worsening of the situation.
Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar Ul Haq Kakar has already condemned the Jaranwala incident and affirmed to take stern action against those responsible for the disgraceful act.
Taking the social media site X, formerly known as Twitter, Anwaar Ul Haq Kakar said, “I am gutted by the visuals coming out of Jaranwala, Faisalabad. “Stern action would be taken against those who violate the law and target minorities. All law enforcement has been asked to apprehend culprits & bring them to justice,” he hinted.
