On Global Tree Plantation Day, observed as National Tree Plantation Day in Pakistan, Karachi has seen a surge in efforts to make the city greener.
According to the 24NewsHD TV channel, as the largest city in Pakistan, Karachi faces a significant shortage of trees, prompting a heightened focus on reforestation initiatives.
In the midst of this concrete jungle, an urban forest has been established in Karachi, covering 200 acres with 700,000 trees and 600,000 mangroves.
Environmentalist Masood Lohar stated that forests can reduce temperatures by up to 5°C, while trees not only absorb pollution but also produce clean air.
He added that raising awareness about the importance of tree plantations in urban planning is crucial to tackling environmental pollution in the city.
