A sessions court in Islamabad has ordered a jail trial in the case of former prime minister and PTI founder Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi's alleged illegal marriage, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Monday.
District and Sessions Court Judge Qudratullah heard the alleged illegal Nikah case against the PTI founder and his wife.
Bushra Bibi's lawyer Usman Gul appeared in the court.
Gul told the court that Bushra Bibi was in Lahore and she could not appear in the court, on this the court said that the ex-PTI chairman was in jail, Bushra Bibi was not in jail.
Gul said that Bushra Bibi was indisposed. The court said that if Bushra Bibi was really ill, then she should have attached the medical application along with the application.
The court also summoned the PTI founder in the case.
But the jail authorities refused to present Imran Khan in the court and submitted their reply.
The Adiala Jail Superintendent in his reply said that the PTI founder could not be presented in court because of security threat. He said that a letter was also written to the police authorities for the appearance of the PTI founder but they cited security risks.
After that, the court ordered a jail trial against Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi in the illegal marriage case.
In the order issued by the court, it is said that the decision was taken after the response of the superintendent of Adiala Jail regarding the appearance of the PTI founder in the court.
The order says that the court realizes that the case trial should be held at some safer place which the federal government may suggest including the Adiala Jail.
The court further says that the next hearing of the illegal Nikah case would be held in Adiala Jail and it would be an open trial. Family members and citizens who wish to attend the hearing, they may attend, while media representatives and citizens could contact the superintendent under jail rules for the hearing.
The order further says that the court accepts Bushra Bibi’s plea for her exemption from the court appearance today. But she must appear in the next hearing and her exemption plea would not be accepted next time.
The court adjourned further hearing of the case till December 22.
It should be noted that the jail trial is also going on against the PTI founder in cipher, contempt of Election Commission and Toshakhana cases.
