The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) will conduct hearing of the petitions challenging the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf's intra-party elections tomorrow (December 18), reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Sunday.
The ECP issued a notice to PTI Chairman Gohar Khan, summoning him on Monday.
A five-member bench of the ECP will conduct the hearing of the case. Notices have been issued to PTI’s nine office-bearers including PTI’s Chief Election Commissioner Niaz Ullah Niazi, General Secretary Omar Ayub, Balochistan President Munir Ahmad Baloch, Sindh President Halim Adil Sheikh, Punjab President Dr Yasmin Rashid, and KP President Ali Amin Gandapur.
The ECP also issued notices to Returning Officer Central Secretariat Sardar Masroof Khan and returning officer in the KP’s Central Secretariat, Ansar Mahmood.
So far, 13 petitions have been filed in the ECP against the PTI’s intra-party elections.
It merits mentioning here that the recent intra-party elections of the PTI were challenged in the ECP by 13 persons including party’s founding member Akbar S Babar.
The petitioners have requested the ECP to declare the intra-party elections of the PTI null and void.
Hum Awam Pakistan Party has already filed an application in the ECP to allot it ‘Bat’ as election symbol, saying that the PTI has failed to conduct the intra-party elections. “No party has so far been assigned the ‘Bat’ as elction symbol nor there is any demand in this regard, so ‘Bat’ symbol should be allotted to us,” the content of the application stated.
