Fog rules the roost in various parts of Punjab, hampers traffic on motorway

Fog is ruling the roost these days in various parts of Punjab which has reduced the visibility level to a mere 0.1km today creating difficulty for vehicular traffic, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Monday.


According to a spokesperson for Motorway Police, different sections of the motorway have been closed due to thick fog. The sections that have been closed included: M-2 from Lahore to Kot Momin, M-11 from Lahore to Sialkot, M-3 from Faizabad to Rijana, M-4 from Pir Abdul Hakim to Pindi Bhattian and M-5 from Sher Shah to Uch Sharif.


The national highways in Punjab have also been engulfed in a thick layer of fog hampering vehicular movement.


Lahore smog


Meanwhile, the air quality in Lahore has improved a bit following an artificial drizzle poured down on the city on Saturday.


Today, the Punjab capital ranked fourth in the index of most polluted cities in the world with its AQ level recorded at 205.


The maximum temperature of the city will remain between 20C to 22C and lows 5C to 7C today.


Overall weather


According to the Metrological Department report, mainly cold and dry weather is expected in most plain areas of the country, while very cold in northern areas.


Fog/smog is likely to occur in upper Sindh, plain areas of Punjab, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa during morning and night hours.


Past 24-hour weather


Cold and dry weather prevailed over most parts of the country, while it remained cloudy in the upper parts.


However, rain occurred in upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit Baltistan, and northeast Punjab, while light snow fell in Gilgit-Baltistan and Murree.


Rainfall(mm): Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa: Pattan 02, Mirkhani, Chitral 01, Punjab: Sialkot City and Narowal 01.


Today's recorded lowest temperature (°C): Leh -06, Skardu -04, Kalam and Gupis -03.
