Following reports of corruption and the dearth of investigation officers (IOs) probing rape cases, senior police officials have recommended to the government to make amendments to the Anti-Rape Act, 2024, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Wednesday.
Under the proposed amendments, a male will be the head of the team investigating a rape case.
Hitherto, only female IOs had been appointed for the purpose.
Similarly, if the amendments are made, two officers will be appointed at each police station who will work under the in-charge investigation, and all female officers will also work under the same in-charge.
Prior to that, 25 female officers probed rape cases.
Police officials have said that so far over 400 rape cases have been registered during the ongoing year, out of which 65 per cent turned out to be bogus.
