PTI founder was at a court appearance during Prison Reforms Committee’s visit: Adiala admin

Adiala Jail administration has said the Prison Reforms Committee was not barred from meeting anyone.

According to 24NewsHD TV channel, the Adiala Jail administration said at the time of the committee's visit, the PTI founder was appearing before an NAB court which is not under its jurisdiction.

Prison Reforms Committee (PRC) Member Khadija Shah wrote a letter to the Chief Justice of Pakistan about the committee’s visit to Adiala Jail, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Wednesday.

According to the text of the letter, the body observed that special care was taken to maintain cleanliness in the jail in view of our arrival.

It added:  “Adiala is one of the jails in which many political prisoners have been kept in the last two years and these include the former Prime Minister of Pakistan and the founder of PTI. The founder of PTI is a political prisoner and it was necessary to get their opinion.

“The Supreme Court had directed that we be allowed to roam freely without the supervision of the prison staff.

“From the prison administration, we requested to visit the former Prime Minister's barracks but were denied access. Despite requesting the DIG Prisons, we were not even given access to a meeting.

“It is requested that orders be given to the Prisoners' Reforms Sub-Committee to visit Adiala Jail once again and orders be given to the Prison Reforms Committee to grant access to the former Prime Minister.

“The Prison Reforms Committee cannot give its opinion to the Supreme Court without knowing the opinion of the former Prime Minister.”
