Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Senior Vice President (SVP) and the party’s Chief Organizer Maryam Nawaz said on Saturday that while no state institution supported Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) Chief Imran Khan, there were some remnants of General (r) Faiz Hameed in the Pakistan Army who still supported him, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
Talking to the media in Lahore, she said that the PML-N had always been the party of Nawaz Sharif. “And when the PML-N supremo left for the UK for treatment, the party started facing issues,” she said, adding, “Now the party has realized how important Nawaz is for the party.”
Maryam said that Nawaz would soon return to the country.
She said that the PTI leaders were still hiding in their bunkers. “It was the PTI government which had destroyed the country’s economy, and we, the coalition government, are rebuilding it,” she claimed.
She was of the opinion that the PTI’s defeat in elections was a writing on the wall.
PML-N stalwart said she did not feel any hesitation in saying that people would not give a good response to her and other party leaders given inflation in the country. “But even Imran could not address a single public gathering when he was the country’s prime minister,” Maryam added.
She opined that Imran and the PTI had reaped what they had sowed. “People like Imran should be held accountable for their deeds,” she said.
She went on to say that she wanted to make the judiciary realize that institutions did not weaken if they held people accountable.
PML-N leader said it was now that the party had realized the importance of social media for spreading its message. “For a long time, we remained oblivious to the role social media plays in the formation of public opinion,” she acknowledged, and added, “Now the PML-N is making its social media wing more active.”
The fact was, she said, today what mattered was who used filthy language on social media the most. “But we will have to focus on the country’s progress,” she asserted.
Maryam said neither she had any position in the government in the past nor she had it now.
She was of the view that ‘Vote ko Izzat Dau’ ‘Give respect to vote’ should be the motto of every political party, and not just of the PML-N. “But the truth is that our motto is ‘Vote ko Izzat Dau while theirs (PTI) is ‘Hamen hukoomat dau’ (Give us power),” she said.
PML-N leader said what the country needed today was ‘reconciliation’ and not ‘confrontation’.
She said if legislators were elected for five years, they should be allowed to complete their term. “But whenever elections are held, we are ready,” she said.
Maryam expressed the hope that soon Nawaz would be given a clean chit by the courts since, what she claimed, those who gave decisions against him had now confessed they had been asked to do so. “And if the courts do not correct this wrong, there will be issues in future,” she warned.
