Peshawar Zalmi captain and Pakistan’s top batter Babar Azam won the toss and elected to field first against Quetta Gladiators in the second PSL 9 match being played at Lahore’s Qaddafi Stadium on Sunday, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
The PSL 9 was kicked off on Saturday night with a glitzy opening ceremony featuring action-packed performances from some of the country’s leading pop stars.
In the first match played in Lahore, Islamabad United thrashed defending champions Lahore Qalandars by eight wickets to open their account in the tournament.
After winning the toss, Zalmi skipper Babar Azam said he wanted to make use of the overcast conditions to deal early blows to his opponents. “We’ll look to restrict them to 160,” he added.
Gladiators captain Rilee Rossouw said the team wanted to focus on one game at a time. “It’s going to be a great challenge, it’s a new season and we are all excited about it,” he said, adding “You never know what’s a good score until both teams have batted.”
The Gladiators were strengthened by the arrival of batters Jason Roy and Laurie Evans in Lahore hours before the match. “The royal arrival,” the Gladiators wrote on social media platform X, showing Roy and Evans reaching Lahore.
