The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Tuesday suspended the non-bailable arrest warrants for Fawad Chaudhry and ordered him to appear before the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

A hearing on the petition of Fawad Chaudhry against the issuance of non-bailable arrest warrants by the ECP was held in the IHC.

Justice Tariq Mahmood Jahangiri conducted the hearing on the petition, and Fawad Chaudhry’s lawyer Faisal Chaudhry Advocate appeared before the court.

While presenting his arguments in the court, Faisal Chaudhry Advocate said that contempt proceedings against Fawad Chaudhry were ongoing in the ECP.

At this, the court remarked: “The chief justice has given a verdict that the contempt of election commission proceedings will continue.”

It further remarked: “The chief justice in his judgment has restrained the ECP from issuing a final verdict in this matter.”

It questioned: “Whatever it is. The election commission is also a court. Notices have been issued to you. Why are you not appearing there in a personal capacity? You have also violated the IHC order by not appearing before the election commission.”

Faisal Chaudhry said: “We are ready to appear before the election commission.”

The IHC then suspended Fawad Chaudhry’s non-bailable arrest warrants and ordered him to appear before the ECP on July 20 next.

“The arrest warrants are being suspended. [Now] appear before the election commission, or the contempt of court proceedings will be initiated,” Justice Tariq Jahangiri remarked.

It is to be noted here that ECP had issued non-bailable arrest warrants for Fawad Chaudhry over skipping appearance.
