Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) vice president Senator Sherry Rehman Friday said that the parliamentarians of ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) had openly expressed “no-confidence” in their government, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

In a statement, the senior PPP leader said that the allies of the government were also advising Prime Minister Imran Khan to step down as he had clearly lost the majority in the House.

“Imran Khan should not hold the office of Prime Minister after losing the mandate,” she said and added that he was attempting to save his government through unconstitutional means.

“Unconstitutional advices such as attack on Sindh House, Governor Rule in Sindh, and disqualification of parliamentarians before voting are being given to the prime minister,” Sherry stated.

“Any irresponsible action by the government will take the country towards chaos,” she noted and added that no-confidence was a constitutional issue and the government should refrain from taking unconstitutional steps.

She also urged the National Assembly speaker to fulfil his constitutional duties, adding that his statements did not represent the position of the speaker.

“The speaker cannot disqualify parliamentarians before voting. Any unconstitutional measure will not be in favour of the country,” Sherry stated.
