Nation remembers 1965 war hero MM Alam

The 10th death anniversary of Muhammad Mahmood Alam, widely known as MM Alam, who had emerged as a hero after shooting down five Indian planes in just one minute in 1965 war, was observed on Saturday, reported 24NewsHD TV channel. 

He joined the Pakistan Air Force in 1952 and held the posts of Squadron Leader, Instructor, Director of Operations and Assistant Chief of the Air Staff.

In the Indo-Pak war of 1965, he was flying F-86 warplane which was technically faster than the Indian Hunter planes at that time. MM Alam shot down five Indian Hunter fighter jets near Sargodha in just one minute.

MM Alam set a world record by downing four planes within thirty seconds. 

In recognition of MM Alam's heroic services, the government of Pakistan awarded him ‘Sitara-e-Jurat’ twice. 

He passed away in Karachi on 18 March 2013 after fighting with a protracted illness.
