President Arif Alvi in a tweet posted on his official twitter account paid tribute to the late Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf leader Zahra Shahid Hussain who was assassinated on 18 May 2013 outside her house in Karachi during her election campaign.
The President said, “Exactly seven years ago today, Zahra Shahid Hussain Shaheed was assassinated in my constituency NA-250 on the evening of her election.”
“She was an excellent educator, a very loving person and she was known as Zahra Apa. A very wonderful woman. May Allah forgives her?” the president said.
Zahra Shahid Hussain aka Zara Apa in political circles, was an activist cum politician, teacher and the senior vice president of Imran Khan's Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) in Sindh.
She had formerly served as the president of women's wing of the party in Sindh, and was a member of the central executive committee of the party.
On 18 May 2013, she was assassinated outside her house in the upscale Defence Housing Authority neighbourhood in Karachi.
