In view of the approaching winter season, the government has prepared a set of proposals or in other words ‘gas load management plan’ to determine which sector is to receive gas and how much, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Thursday.
Quoting sources, the channel reported that according to one of the proposals, the gas supply to industries, barring export-oriented ones, and the CNG sector should be suspended for a period of two months.
The purpose of other measures, which have been proposed, is to save domestic and commercial consumers from severe gas crises this winter season.
The sources told 24News that the gas shortage, which was expected to remain 592mmcfd in December 2021, was expected to go up to 772mmcfd in January 2022.
They further disclosed that the Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) had suggested to the government the supply of over Rs92 billion of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) to both domestic as well as commercial consumers for a period of three months.
The SNGPL had also suggested to the government the supply of 361mmcfd and 575mmcfd of LNG to both domestic and commercial consumers in December 2021 and January 2022, respectively, the sources elaborated.
Similarly, they said, it had also been proposed to the government that 332mmcfd of LNG be supplied to domestic and commercial consumers in February 2022.
