The lawmakers of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf in Senate have written a letter to Chief Justice of Pakistan requesting him to take notice of the flagrant violations of human rights in the public interest while highlighting Senator Azam Swati's alleged torture in police custody, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
Reportedly, the PTI parliamentarians in the Upper House wrote an epistle to the Chief Justice of Pakistan highlighting the human rights issue in case of Senator Swati.
The decision regarding bringing the matter of torture on Swati into the notice of CJP was taken yesterday in a PTI meeting attended by senior leadership and held under the chair of party Chief Imran Khan.
In the letter which was addressed to the CJP, the PTI senators complained that after midnight on Oct 13, the authorities stormed the house of Azam Swati and rummaged through everything in the house. They even took away his grandchildren’s things with them.
The letter further alleged that even before producing Swati before the court, he had been subjected to torture for hours during detention.
Swati even informed the court about the torture inflicted on him. He told the court about the shameful torture perpetrated on sensitive parts of his body.
The CJP was apprised that a great sense of harassment and insecurity was aroused among people with the ‘custodial torture’ of a veteran and old member of the Upper House.
The Constitution of Pakistan fully endorses the right of human dignity and the Supreme Court is the protector of human rights, the letter said urging the Chief Justice of Pakistan to immediately take notice of this blatant violation of human rights in the best public interest.
The letter further implored that the august court should take suo motu notice of the matter under Article 184 (3).
