Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif chaired important consultative meeting of the coalition parties at PM House Islamabad on Thursday night to brief the leaders of the allied parties about the draft of constitutional amendments, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
Sources said according to the draft, a constitutional bench will be formed, the head and members of the bench will be approved by a special committee of the parliament. The special committee will include ruling opposition members and the speaker will also be a part of it.
The appointment of Chief Justice of Pakistan is also part of the constitutional amendments. A panel of names of 3 or 5 judges for the Chief Justice will be sent to the Prime Minister. The members were also briefed on the issue of military courts and it was told that not all civilian cases will go to military courts. Only cases of attacks on military installations and especially terrorism cases will be handed over to military courts. The constitutional amendment is likely to be tabled in the House tomorrow, the plan to vote on Saturday. The allies assured the support to the Prime Minister on the issue of constitutional amendments. The meeting of the special committee of the parliament will be held at 11 am on Friday.
