Serena Isa, wife of Justice Qazi Faez Isa of the Supreme Court, Monday said that the tax commissioner had sought details of her foreign currency account despite the fact that her account enjoyed legal protection, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
During the hearing of a review petition filed by her husband in the Supreme Court (SC) against the presidential reference, when Justice Umar Ata Bandial asked Serena whether she paid the fine imposed by the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), she replied in negative.
She told the apex court that when properties were purchased overseas, her children were adults.
She made it clear that she and her children were not dependents on Justice Isa.
“Why doesn’t Prime Minister Imran Khan reveal assets of his three wives and three children,” Serena said and claimed that the prime minister did not meet the criterion as laid down in Article 62.
She further said that FBR Chairman Jahanzeb Khan was sacked because he had refused to comply with Shehzad Akbar’s order for an inquiry against her and her husband.
Justice Munib Akhtar and Justice Qazi Faez Isa exchanged hot words with each other when during the hearing Justice Munib Akhtar said that as per the FBR report, there was a discrepancy in Serena Isa’s reply. “FBR says Serena had told its team that out of three properties overseas, two were owned by her children and one she owned herself. Bureau’s report also tells that Justice Isa’s wife had sent money abroad for children’s education.”
“What proof FBR has,” Justice Isa reacted angrily, and asked Justice Muneeb not to ask his wife such questions since she was not a lawyer.
This led Justice Muneeb to ask Justice Isa not to interfere and sit silently.
On this occasion, Justice Mansoor Ali Shah remarked that if it had been proven that the money had been sent abroad, then the purpose of sending it did not matter.
Justice Yahya Afridi remarked was not it illegal to send money abroad for the purpose of education of children and then build flats with that money?
Justice Umar Ata Bandial said the actual thing was that the money had been sent through the bank and not through Hundi.
