The District and Sessions Court of Islamabad Friday suspended the physical remand of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Shahbaz Gill till Monday next and ordered to shift him to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) for a detailed medical examination, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
Duty Magistrate Raja Farrukh Ali in his judgement which he reserved earlier said that the condition of Shahbaz Gill was not satisfactory. He ordered to produce Gill before the court on Monday.
“Shahbaz Gill was produced before the court on a wheelchair with an oxygen cylinder. Why would he be brought to the court in an ambulance if his condition was well?” the duty magistrate remarked.
“A detailed medical examination of Shahbaz Gill should be carried out. A medical examination should also be carried out of the respiratory problems he is suffering from,” he ordered.
The court also rejected the request of Shahbaz Gill’s lawyers for announcing his physical remand completed, stating that the physical remand had not yet been started.
Earlier, PTI leader Shahbaz Gill had been produced on a wheelchair before the Islamabad District and Sessions Court which reserved the judgement on the request of Islamabad police for granting further eight-day physical remand of the accused.
Shahbaz Gill had been produced before the court of Duty Magistrate Raja Farrukh Ali where the former begged the authorities to give his oxygen mask back.
“For God’s sake! Return me the oxygen mask of mine!” he pleaded. “Do you want to stay in the court?” the court asked from Shahbaz Gill. “Return me my oxygen mask. I will stay,” Gill said.
Strict security arrangements had been made on the occasion of Gill’s production before the court.
Faisal Chaudhry, lawyer for Shahbaz Gill, contended before the court that the medical report of Shahbaz Gill had not been produced. “It appears from the medical report that he has been subjected to torture,” he had stated.
Besides, the medical board of Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) had declared the health of PTI leader Shahbaz Gill satisfactory. And, in the light of the report of the medical report, a decision to discharge Shahbaz Gill from the hospital was made.
The Islamabad police had also rejected the claims about the torture of Shahbaz Gill. They got an advertisement published in the media in which the spokesperson for Islamabad police said, “Anyone who has got evidence about the torture of Shahbaz Gill at Kohsar police station should record his statement at the office of the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Islamabad.”
Before hearing of the case, the legal team of Shahbaz Gill, led by Barrister Hassan Niazi, had met him at the PIMS.
Legal experts including Naeem Haider, Tanvir Rajput, Mirza Asif Baig Qamar and others were among the seven-member team.
