Says department will be made profitable with zero political involvement

Newly-appointed Railways Minister Azam Khan Swati announced future course of action for running Pakistan Railways and vowed to make PR a profitable entity with zero political involvement, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

Azam Swati has been appointed Railways Minister in the recent reshuffle of the federal cabinet made by Prime Minister Imran Khan.

He chaired a high-level meeting at Railways Headquarters in Lahore on Saturday in which Chairman Railways Habibur Rehman Gillani and Railways CEO briefed the minister in details about the operations. 

The TV channel reported the inside story of the meeting in which the newly appointed Railways Minister announced a completely different policy from his predecessor Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed. 

Azam Swati announced Pakistan Railways will be clean from political involvement and the PR will be run on commercial entities.

Talking to newsmen after the meeting, Azam Swati said it is the job of the media to convey Imran Khan's policy on railways to the people. “I will try to perform better as Railways Minister if not the same as Sheikh Rasheed worked,” he added.

Azam Swati said media is the fourth pillar of the State and if the media does not keep an eye on the situation of Railways, then he would not be able to improve this ‘ruined’ railways. “I have accepted the challenge of railways,” he added.

He said PR will come out with a good name, not with a bad name. He announced his foremost priority towards Pakistan Railways is to ensure safety of passengers.

“We have written letters to the provincial ministers regarding in-level crossings issues. Human safety is the first priority of Pakistan Railways now,” Azam Swati announced. He said, “Give me some time, I will ensure zero political involvement in Pakistan Railways.”
