Malaysian Eg Eain Mae becomes the crowned champion of the 21st Asian Senior Individual Men’s Squash Championship 2021, as he outclasses Yip Tsz Fung of Hong Kong, 3-0 in the final played here at Mushaf Squash Complex on Saturday.
While Hong Kong’s Tong Tsz Wing took the ladies title, as she beat Malaysian Rachel Mae Arnold 3-0 in the final.
Pakistan Squash Federation Senior Vice President Air Marshal Aamir Masood the grace the occasion as chief guest.
Former world squash champions Qamar Zaman Khan, Jansher Khan, Pakistan Squash Federation Director Academies Air Commodore Aftab Sadiq Qureshi, Secretary Wing Commander Armaghan Aziz, Umer Saeed, CEO, Combaxx Sports were also among the guests.
Due to OIC Conference at Serena Hotels, Manager Operations and Marketing, who always remained instrumental in every squash event, as Serena always tales lead as title sponsors were notable absentee, as he was busy performing official duties with OIC delegates.
In the men’s final, Eg Eain Mae started the first game in a whirlwind fashion and took the game 11-6, as his opponent Yip looked hapless and had no answers to the pace and agility of Eg.
In the second game, Yip looked more focused and matched fore with fire, it was classic squash on offer, both players pressed each other, both fought for each and every point, the game kept on swinging from one way to another.
Eg was looking a bit surprised and puzzled, as he was not expecting such tit for tat matching response from Yip, who was looking like fighting for his life. Yip had golden chances to wrap up the game, but he fail to take advantage and let Eg off the hook, after tough resistance, Eg took the second game 13-1.
The third game also started on an electrifying pace, long rallies were witnessed for each and every point, both were showing tough fights, both were not ready to concede.
The game was played on such a high tempo, that it was very hard for the spectators to even blink eyes, it was 6-6, then 8-8, before Ng changed gears and take a crucial 1-8 lead. Yip managed to save one match point, but Yip went out of gas and looked tired. He had no clue what was coming at him, Eg sensing the situation, putting tremendous pressure, his strategy paid off and he took the game 11-9, thus becoming the champion in 40 minutes.
While in the ladies final, Tong Tsz Wing had to battle it out before winning the title, as Rachel Mae Arnold was giving her all.
The first game started on a high note, both displayed top class skills, the game kept on changing before, Tong managed to win the game 11-8.
The second game was by far one of the best of the entire championship, it was played on a very fast tempo.
It was battle royal as the game kept on changing till the very last moment. Rachel could have taken the game but she had to capitalize and Tong took the game 13-11.
In the third game, Rachel was clearly looking off, Tong took the game 11-5 and also won the title in 34 minutes.
While addressing at the occasion, SVP Aamir Masood emphasizes the resolve of the federation to keep on the good work and keep on supporting local players.
