The formal approval of the former caretaker interior minister Sarfraz Bugti Sarfraz Bugti’s resignation is yet pending with President Dr Arif Hussain Alvi’s office, reported the 24NewsHD TV channel.
He submitted his resignation ahead of the election schedule, a legal requirement to contest polls. Under Article 224A of the Constitution and the Elections Act, members of the caretaker cabinet cannot participate in the upcoming elections.
However, the Cabinet Division has not yet issued his de-notification order making his chances to contest the upcoming elections doubtful.
The election schedule was issued by the Election Commission of Pakistan on December 16 and his resignation came hours before the schedule.
According to sources, President Dr Arif Hussain Alvi has not yet approved his resignation.
Sarfraz Bugti is still holding the caretaker portfolio of the interior ministry.
As per the process, the Cabinet Division has to get formal approval from the President before issuing a de-notification order of a caretaker minister.
Sarfraz Bugti's resignation date and de-notification date will also cause difficulties in his nomination papers stage.
Sarfraz Bugti has not yet resigned from the membership of the Senate.
