Pakistan women defeat New Zealand in Super Over nail-biter

In a nail-biting encounter at Hagley Oval, the third one-day international between Pakistan and New Zealand women lived up to its billing, concluding in a thrilling tie. The match was eventually decided in a Super Over, with Women in Green finally emerging victorious.


The tension, drama, and exceptional cricket showcased the competitive spirit of both the teams in the Pakistan team’s tour of New Zealand.


New Zealand elected to bat after winning the toss and posted a challenging total of 251/8 in their 50 overs. Amelia Kerr‘s impressive knock of 77 runs and Maddy Green’s well-constructed 65 were the highlights. The bowling effort from Pakistan was led by Nashra Sandhu and Ghulam Fatima, who claimed two wickets each in their respective quota of 10 overs.



Chasing 252 runs for victory, Pakistan women fought valiantly, with Bismah Maroof‘s resilient 68 and Aliya Riaz’s steady 44 anchoring the innings. The White Ferns bowlers, particularly Lea Tahuru and Amelia Kerr, picked up crucial wickets. However, the match ended in a tie, leading to a Super Over showdown.



In the nerve-wracking Super Over, Pakistan held their nerves to secure a thrilling victory by a margin of three runs. The Player of the Match was rightfully awarded to Bismah Maroof for her crucial contribution with the bat.



 


New Zealand’s Amelia Kerr was awarded player of the series.
